Going Green

Recycle First Program

We at First Choice are socially and ethically responsible to our environment. In an effort to reduce the amount of waste sent to our community’s landfills, First Choice enlarged its property to facilitate the recycling of approximately 99% of the “green waste” that is generated from our job sites. In fact, we process an average of 40 tons of green waste material each day. Waste material is processed into three general categories of reusable products: Wood Chips, Compost and Firewood.

Wood Chips

The green waste from completed jobs is processed through a chipper where it is turned into wood chips and soil amendments. As wood chips decay, they release organic material back into the soil. This process enhances the quality of the soil, which ultimately improves the health of the surrounding plant material. These products are distributed to local residents, ranches and farms.

The more coarse material is loaded into our end dump truck and delivered to A-1 Organics where it is processed into compost. Compost is made from finely ground branches, leaves and other organic material. When mixed with oxygen and water, the organic material will decay or “compost.” A finished compost is excellent for turning into the top layer of soil and will add nitrogen and increase the water holding capacity of soil.

Firewood is traditionally the most common use of large branches and logs. The wood from our completed jobs is transported back to the First Choice yard where it is separated, stacked and split for firewood. This firewood is then used to heat local homes and businesses.

First Choice Tree Service is proud of our various achievements that help shape our stellar reputation in the industry.

  • TCISA Logo

    TCIA accreditation

Among our highest accomplishments is receiving our TCIA accreditation. It is an honor that we pass on to our customers. The program represents the only business practices and compliance audit process in the tree care industry, aimed at safeguarding consumers.

    The review includes:

    • Best business practices
    • Ethical business conduct
    • Formal training and certification of employees
    • Compliance with industry standards
    • Consumer satisfaction
    • Adherence to safety standards
    • Insurance coverage

According to TCIA president, Cynthia Mills, “TCIA Accreditation provides consumers a way to find tree care companies that are trustworthy in the business and tree care practices. Our accreditation program is the only one of its kind in America and will give consumers peace of mind.”

  • CTSP Logo

    Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP)

As an added benefit to our customers, First Choice Tree Service employs one of only two certified tree care safety professionals in the entire state of Nevada. The Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP) program, offered by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), allows key employees to become certified tree care safety experts, thereby empowering and encouraging a culture of safety within that organization and across the industry as a whole. Maintaining a certified tree care safety professional on staff means First Choice Tree Service is committed to safe practices in arboricultural operations. CTSP’s are kept abreast of the latest technological advances and regulatory activities affecting the industry through the TCIA safety network, and must commit to ongoing education in the safety field in order to maintain their certification. Because safety regulations and industry standards are continually evolving, the ongoing education requirement is vital to maintaining a legitimate safety program within a given company.
